Keane‘s latest release, the EP Night Train, was released in May of this year. The songs, recorded all over the world, are culled primarily from scraps, leftovers and unfinished songs. Special guests include K’Naan on two tracks and Tigarah covering Yellow Magic Orchestra.

Instead of the traditional ways of recording, Keane used studios in Berlin, Brisbane, Copenhagen, London, Los Angeles, Paris and Washington, DC during the Perfect Symmetry world tour. “ We're not very good at having a sort of a formula and sticking to it, but I think that's a good thing.

This release is built around the K’Naan collaborations. The band’s original idea was to get Kanye West for “Looking Back” and get that “west coast vibe” to it, laid back, funky and soulful. Once they put together “Stop For A Minute,” they decided to go with K’Naan who they were fans of. They soon discovered that he in fact, was a fan of Keane as well.

They just wrapped up a small tour of the U.S. which included a spectacular show on a beautiful night in Brooklyn, NY on the waterfront. Tom Chaplin teased, they’ll be back soon. Their live show is one of the best you’ll ever see.

Keanemusic.com have launched the new Members page. Now, when you log-in to the site, as well as being able to comment, add gig pictures or click that you're attending a gig, you'll be able to do the following:

1. Update your own profile page - where you can upload an image, info about yourself and photos

2. "Add Friends" from within the km.com community, who are then displayed on your profile.

3. Send private message to your friends, or write on their profile's wall.

4. Every member has the option to place a pin on a KEANE FAN MAP (powered by Google Maps) which will show where you and other Keane fans are. Just type in where you live and a pin will be put in the centre of your city, town, suburb, village or area. (Please note, you can't currently move the pin once you've added it).

Rock band Keane top UK album chart for fourth time
LONDON

Wed, May 5 2010LONDON (Reuters) - English band Keane secured a fourth consecutive number one album on Sunday with their latest release "Night Train" going straight in at the top of the charts, the Official Charts Company said.

Music

The group, whose worldwide album sales exceed 10 million, named the album after their preferred mode of transport during a 28-country tour for their last album, "Perfect Symmetry."

There were three other new entries in the top 10, with Lady Gaga's "The Remix" entering at number three and New York-based National going in at number five with "High Violet," while Foals' "Total Live Forever" was at number eight.

In the singles charts, London-based grime music collective Roll Deep's "Good Times" held on to the top spot for a third week running, making it only the second track to have spent as long at number one this year.

Jason Derulo's "Ridin' Solo" climbed to number two, from last week's twelfth place, while Romanian producer Edward Maya's dance track "Stereo Love," featuring Russian born Vika Jigulina was a new entry at number four.

Fyfe Dangerfield's cover of Billy Joel's "She's Always A Woman," which features in a television advert for high street department store John Lewis, was a new entry in the top ten, climbing seven places from last week to sit at number seven.

The cast of television show Glee went straight in at number nine with their version of Bonnie Tyler's 1983 hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart."

The Killers, Amy Winehouse, Rolling Stones, Keane e Jack Johnson, entre outros astros da música pop, se uniram ao projeto Rhythms Del Mundo para regravar antigos sucessos em ritmo cubano. O disco "Rhythms Del Mundo - Classics", segundo volume da série, foi lançado no último dia 13 em prol das vítimas de desastres naturais ao redor do planeta.

São 16 faixas interpretadas por músicos e bandas da atualidade com arranjos elaborados pelos integrantes do Rhythms Del Mundo. O disco abre com "Hotel California", hit do Eagles que ganhou a voz de Brandon Flowers e seu The Killers. Enquanto Jack Johnson canta "Imagine", de John Lennon, o Keane relê "Under Pressure", música que já havia regravado. Clássicos de Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson e Marvin Gaye também foram repassados.

O Rhythms del Mundo lançou a primeira versão do projeto em 2005, após o desastre causado pela tsunami que atingiu países da Ásia. O álbum teve a participação de U2, Coldplay, Sting, Maroon 5, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, entre outros, e ajudou cerca de 175 projetos beneficentes ao redor do mundo.

The band will record the live session at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios, the home of The Beatles' historic first ever satellite broadcast, and will feature live mixed graphics from world-renowned digital artists D-Fuse.

“We believe that the tradition of rock'n'roll is to always innovate, to bring new ideas and concepts into music. We are therefore incredibly excited about the prospect of being the first band to beam our music live in 3D over the internet. Over the last couple of years, our website has become a hive of artistic creativity for us and our fans. On April 2nd at 8pm (UK time), hundreds of thousands of those fans will be able don their 3D glasses and watch us play some songs from our new record, Perfect Symmetry. Jesse Quin talks to "Keane Backline"

IF ONE WORD WERE TO BE USED to describe the life of Keane over the past year or two, 'change" would probably be the most apt. Ever since the Under The Iron Sea era came to a close with the band's 2007 benefit shows for Warchild and Mencap, Tom, Tim and Richard had started the process of redefining their sound and whole approach to the business of being a band. The most outwardly-visible symbol of this process was Jesse Quin, a musician and friend of the band. Jesse took over the bass guitar duties for the recording sessions that ultimately gave us Perfect Symmetry, allowing the band to rediscover an aspect of the live dynamic that had been missing since the departure of Dom Scott back in 2001. Jesse has also been a pivotal part of the band's re-invigorated live show, with his live bass, synth and percussion work playing a key part in reducing the long-standing dependency on playback from a laptop. Whilst there was initially a degree of resistance to his involvement with band, the fan-base have now firmly taken Jesse to their hearts with a level of adoration and appreciation that rivals that of Tom, Tim and Richard.

Despite all this, Jesse has still remained quite an enigmatic figure, rarely being interviewed or being a part of PR appearances beyond playing live. In order to give an insight into the man behind the bass, Jesse was was kind enough to take time out during the band's recent South American tour in order to answer a raft of questions from Keane Backline. He tells us how he became involved with Keane, discusses his past and present solo musical endeavours, and tells us what he really thinks of those I HEART JQ t-shirts!

Piano pop trio Keane say that new single Perfect Symmetry is about war and terrorism.

Frontman Tom Chaplin and drummer Richard Hughes were talking to stv ahead of their winners-only show for lucky Bauer Media radio stations (inc. Clyde 1, Forth One and Northsound 1) plus a handful of five thirty show, viewers.

The pair revealed that the band are having more fun than ever and said on the new record they tried to make the sound as eclectic as possible.

“We love the song, it’s a great song” said singer Tom of Perfect Symmetry, the title track from their new album. “As soon as we started playing and recording it, we thought it was the best single we’d ever done.

“It’s a kind of sprawling epic…about war and terrorism. Trying to see the good in the people though, to encourage our sense of sympathy and humanity as people, rather than the uglier side of life.

“It’s a very powerful song of the times.”

In October the English group racked up their third successive number one album with Perfect Symmetry, a feat they are delighted with.

“We’ve come back with a record that’s very fresh and exciting. It’s kind of testament to our strength of character as a band,” said Tom.

“Getting this album to number one, considering the amount of competition that there’s been towards the end of this year, has been an especially good feeling.”

“2008 has definitely been the most fun in the life of Keane,” added Richard.

As eléctricas "Spiraling" e "Perfect symmetry" fizeram suar as estopinhas a toda a gente e "this is the last time" e "Somewhere we only know", cantadas em sintonia por banda e público, rechearam a noite de comoção. Já no encore Tom cantou "Bedshaped" agarradinho à bandeira de Portugal, que entretanto fora buscar ao público."

How was it to come back to a European tour after being away for a while?
Tim : It feels very good, it’s a pretty good tour, very fun. The crowd has been good and the new songs have been going down really well judging from last night, working that out.
Tom : It’s been fun trying to find out a kind of setlist that really flows, I think by the last few days on the main part of the tour, it was just last week, I think we really felt we got something really great.. so yeah it’s great, it's really exciting to get to play from 3 records now.
Talking about anniversary date your first proper gig was 4 years ago almost day for day (27/11/04)...
Tom : Whereabouts was that, I can't even remember?
Tim : The Batofar
Tom : The Batofar! I seem to remember this ship was kinda rocking slowly.
Tim : The Elysée Montmartre was different though. It was something nice, it was a good one i remember that, it was great it was quite an exciting adventure!
Tom : It’s pretty amazing we’re now playing such a huge place.
Yeah le Batofar is like the tiniest venue in Paris and that's the second biggest
Tom : France is one of the first places that we came, or maybe Germany
Tim : Probably
Tom : I suppose we made our music... we had these expectations of how popular it might be in Britain but you just never know how it’s gonna be like abroad so it’s great. It’s kinda growing from that point and cos so many people who don't have english as their first language who sort of know the songs inside out and the songs really kinda mean a huge amount to them, we got I suppose... we never take that for granted so it's a pretty inspiring thing to see that.
The album Perfect symmetry was only out on Monday here in France, like a month after the release, do you think the gig will be any different from what you did in Europe?
Tom : Ah it’ll be more special (laughs) I would imagine?
Tim : well it's the same, when we started the tour it was nearly a month ago, just after the album came out really, so people were still getting to know the album when we were in (where did we start ?)... Holland
Tom : Antwerp
Tim : Antwerp! And Germany... I think it always takes a few months for people to l ike consider that, it'll be a while before people know "You haven’t told me anything" as well as they know "Everybody’s changing" or whatever but actually I think that the new songs are very accessible, a lot of them and also very danceable, it's all about tempo. I genuinely found on the tour that people responded really well to the new ones especially, i guess they're more energetic. That would be really good, it would be a really good gig here last time I thought so hopefully... it'll be good
Tom : They'll be booing us off (laughs)
With Jesse joining in, how did it change your dynamic as a band whether it was recording in the studios or live on stage now ?
Tom : I think it helped in every part of what we do, when he first came to play with us it was just liberating to not have to have the bass part... well in fact the very first time he was just with us for the Mencap thing, then the Warchild gig. And I think we all felt great to have someone there providing that support as opposed to the computer and again the same thing has applied as soon as we started rehearsing the songs back in January we felt great having him there, it was much easier to run through stuff, have another creative person in the room, and he's become a good friend as well so I think this very aspect of what he’s done has been a really great contribution to it and he made it, he rocks live so it’s cool. We're just very happy. And the bass part on the record is fantastic so I guess it's just another, a new element to Keane.
Everything about making this album was just not worrying about whatever we might consider to be constrain in the past. We talked many times about whether we should get a bass player and it’s kind of a long earliest discussions about it and eventually we sort of said no and then actually we did record with Jesse, it was just worth trying and it worked. And the same could be said about pretty much everything else, an idea then that we did, we just thought well if it is an idea there it's worth trying it out I suppose as opposed to thinking about it and then not trying it in the end, and so the best ideas came out about this sense of just feeling free about it so yeah it's been good.
Why did you choose to add some french in Black Burning Heart? Why French and why these verses?
Tim : Well we recorded that song here at the...

Tim : We spent a long time working on that song when we were in Paris, I guess it just absorbed a lot of the influences being here and we have this part of the song where nothing was happening.... I think it was a good idea
Tom : I think the song is quite ...well, i don't know, maybe it's just thinking about all the time, there's something close to the French about the song, it’s very dark, and quite passionate - very passionate
Tim : and poetic
Tom : and very poetic exactly... And it kind of lend itself... French is such a beautiful sounding language!
Tim : I love the idea I think we knew that it was a really uncool idea... I’m sure there must have been some songs in the 80s that people do like that are totally unfashionable basically and so many people have said to us, well lots of people love it but quite a few people said “I hate the bit with the French words”, the more people said it the more I thought it was a great idea to make it. I just love the fact that no one else would dare to do it, and I think it just sounds great, sounds like Tom said it sounds ... mysterious ... it fits with the song

What a strange week in the life of Keane. Exactly a week ago I was sitting on the Eurostar in a half-sleep, having just played the last gig of our European tour in Paris and then spent the entire night in the studio with Kanye West. He played us the whole of his new album, which sounded truly awesome - the bass was so fat that eventually the mixing desk blew up. I was especially pleased when he picked out a line from Spiralling ("When we fall in love, we're just falling in love with ourselves") as being a personal favourite, as it's my favourite line I've ever written. Hurrah. Then Kanye did some work on one of our tracks, and after that I sat in a corner and watched him do his thing on a song for Jamie Foxx. The whole thing was a real privilege and I learned a lot. I wish I had Kanye's energy...and his dress sense! Will work on it.

Keane...while visiting Lisbon...

Jesse and Richard before the concert went for a little walk to visit the city, and in the meanwhile they met some fans. Unfortunatelly I wasn't so lucky... but I was there at the front row of Coliseu and the concert was amazing!

wow. i can't believe we are at the last gig of the tour, and what a place to finish - we opened a tour here in 2005 and it was amazing, so we can't wait to get going tonight.

jesse and i went for a wander around lisbon earlier, and took a few pics, and i've ruined a perfectly good map as we have travelled around europe, just so i know where we are in the world - you can see it below. i don't think you can get much more of a contrast between the iced-up leaf at the start of this blog and the palm tree below.

It's been announced this evening that Keane's third album, Perfect Symmetry, has entered the UK album chart at Number One.

We're completely over-the-moon that Perfect Symmetry has gone to Number One.

The last couple of years have been quite an adventure, and to end up with a third album that we're all fiercely proud of and that has been a total joy to make is a great feeling. To see that album now sitting at the top of the charts is really amazing and the best thing we could possibly have wished for.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your passionate and unwavering support over the years. It means a huge amount to us.

Tim Rice-Oxley, compositor e músico do grupo britânico Keane, fala ao CM sobre o novo disco, ‘Perfect Simmetry’, que é hoje lançado no mercado nacional. E dos tempos difíceis que enfrentaram devido aos problemas do vocalista Tom Chaplin.

Correio da Manhã – O vosso novo disco chama-se ‘Perfect Simmetry’. Porquê?
Tim Rice-Oxley – É uma espécie de ironia, porque é sobre as diferenças entre o que sonhamos, como seres humanos, e o que afinal somos. Arruinamos as coisas ao procurar a perfeição. Criamos ‘big brothers’ que nos controlam...ou andamos a bombardear tudo. O disco tem considerações sérias sobre isso, mas também está cheio de esperança.

– É por isso que soa menos denso do que os anteriores?
– Completamente. Voltámo-nos a juntar para este disco e divertimo-nos muito. Correu bem e as canções traduzem isso, sonora e liricamente.

– Gravaram o disco numa série de cidades: Londres, Los Angeles, Paris, Berlim... Porquê desta forma?
– Porque quando viajamos, quando chegamos a algum lugar novo, isso inspira-nos. É um pouco quando vamos de férias e vemos as diferenças, novas culturas, povos diferentes. Tudo isso nos inspira. Todas as cidades têm a sua aura.

– Este disco chega após os problemas com o vocalista Tom Chaplin, que esteve em reabilitação. Como lidaram com isso, já que são também amigos de infância?
– Foram tempos muito maus. Descemos ao mais baixo que era possível. Mas sobrevivemos.

– Alguma vez pensaram acabar?
– Pensámos. Quando o Tom estava mesmo mal, o mais importante era recuperá-lo e não queríamos saber disto. Foram tempos assustadores.

– É o compositor dos Keane. Quando escreve ouve o Tom Chaplin?
– Escrevo para o Tom e, sim, oiço a voz dele. Sei como irá soar. Sai naturalmente.

- Atingiram o sucesso muito rapidamente. O que mudou?
- Foi tudo muito rápido, muito doido e confuso... Afectou-nos em vários aspectos: passámos a agir de outro modo e quando se passa tanto tempo juntos há que ter consciência disso. Não podíamos deixar de ser afectados. Mas aprendemos que não somos mais os putos que éramos há 20 anos. Aprendemos a perceber que somos três pessoas diferentes, que crescemos e que afinal somos como uma família. Foi isso que fez a banda grande.

– Têm um concerto marcado em Lisboa a 12 de Novembro, no Coliseu de Lisboa, onde já tocaram várias vezes. Que memórias guarda?
– Boas, para dizer a verdade. Fomos número um com ‘Hopes & Fears’ e nem queríamos acreditar. Era o primeiro álbum e já éramos lideres em Portugal. Lembro-me de um público caloroso, que gostava mesmo da nossa música. Foi muito bom. [O Coliseu] era um sitio muito bonito e mágico. A comida é óptima, as pessoas muito simpáticas. Uma vez fiz lá anos e foi óptimo. Sempre passámos lá bons tempos

"Spiralling": named Best Track at the 2008 Q Awards

Keane’s comeback single Spiralling was today named the best track of the year at the 2008 Q Awards with Russian Standard Vodka.

The single – their first taste of third album Perfect Symmetry – was downloaded more than half a million times in a week after it was offered as a free download.
The prize – sponsored by by SingStar – was voted for by the readers of Q and Qthemusic.com. Last year the best track category was won by Manic Street Preachers for Your Love Alone Is Not Enough.

Collecting the award, Keane singer Tom Chaplin quipped: “I just read the Q review of our record and ironically the only track they hated was Spiralling. So thankyou for the readers of Q for disagreeing with the editor!”

After selling a total 8m copies with their first two LPs, and with the housing market on the skids, Keane - so often denegrated as purveyors of sappy, let's-settle-down-together mortgage-rock - are changing their business model. Perfect Symmetry, their third album, is out on October 13 and early reports suggest it casts off their earnest, piano-pounding and, frankly, wearying formula for something sparky, 1980s-influenced and fun even. For once, you can believe the hype.

The atmosphere at this preview gig, organised by the Pravda of music journalism, Q magazine, was overwhelmingly affirmative, but the band's dash and vigour vindicated their new direction. They emerged to the Top Gun theme onto a stage that had just been strafed by sodium lights. The backdrop was a mural of interlocking triangles in red, yellow and blue, one of which had taken 3D form, like a large slice of cheese, to occupy Richard Hughes's drumkit. For a group hitherto as bold as washing powder, the design was as multicoloured as Swap Shop.

Happily, the new material was equally vibrant. "You took the pieces of the dreams that you had / because you don't like the way they seem to be going," sang Tom Chaplin, coltishly clean-cut with his chubby days and cocaine nights far behind him, during "The Lovers Are Losing" - lyrics for a loan default if ever you needed them. Yet the epic whinging that verged on the insufferable in earlier output appears replaced by brash, credit-crunch-be-damned repossession pop.

"If in doubt, listen to David Bowie," is the motto for any band seeking to change their sound, and Keane have clearly been listening intently. "The Lovers Are Losing" cribs the propulsive drone from the start of "Heroes", while "Better Than This" echoes to those shrill, stabbing synth-tones that act like depth-charges in "Ashes to Ashes". I'm not complaining, because this is the most exciting music Keane have made - and judging from the elastic way Tim Rice-Oxley jiggled on his piano stool, their songwriter knows it, too.

Old favourites such as "Somewhere Only We Know" were triumphantly received, but the band, augmented powerfully to a four-piece, looked relieved to be moving on. Perfect Symmetry isn't their Kid A, but it could be their Achtung Baby.Tel )20 7344 0044

"We almost lost everything," says Keane singer Tom Chaplin, referring to his rehab stint in 2006 and what he calls the "claustrophobic" sound of that year's Under the Iron Sea.
